Electron exchange in collisions with O/sub 2/ and NO

Rate constants for electron exchange in collisions between thermal-energy, spin-polarized electrons and O/sub 2/ and NO have been measured using a flowing-helium afterglow apparatus. The measured rate constants, /similar to/10/sup /minus/10/ cm/sup 3/ sec/sup /minus/1/, are substantially smaller than those for electron exchange in collisions with hydrogen or alkali-metal atoms.
