We used CR39 plastic nuclear track detectors(C/sub 12/H/sub 18/O/sub 7/) in combination withautomatic track measurement techniques to determine total charge changing andpartial cross sections for the production of fragments of charge/ital Z//sub /ital F//=6 to /ital Z//sub /ital F//=13 in collisions of /sup 28/Sibeam nuclei at 14.5 GeV/nucleon in targets H, C, CR39,(C/sub 18/H/sub 38/O), Al, Cu, Ag, and Pb. By applicationof factorization rules, measured partial cross sections are separated into purenuclear and electromagnetic components. The cross sections for electromagneticdissociation agree with theoretical models. The results are consistent with a/ital Z//sup 2/ dependence of virtual photon spectra.
