To gain the full energy savings benefits of using compressed air, focus on the electric power cost to run it, not the initial price of the equipment. An air compressor converts electricity to compressed air, which is then used as energy to operate equipment. Reducing the expense of electrical use provides the best opportunity to reduce total energy costs. The paper discusses steps to avoid wasting compressed air, the use of efficient compressors, and savings at partial loads.
