Superconducting connector

A superconducting connector is described comprising a cylindrical male pin consisting of a superconducting material, a cylindrical mating female member consisting of superconducting material for receiving the male pin in sliding contact therewith, and a cylindrical sleeve surrounding the outside of the cylindrical female member. The sleeve consists of a material which has a higher thermal coefficient of expansion than the superconducting material wherein when the connecting assembly is cooled to superconducting temperature range the sleeve constricts the cylindrical female member so that the female member secures the male pin at a superconducting operating temperature range. When the temperature is elevated above the superconducting operating temperature range the male pin may be removed from the female member. First electrical conductor means are connected to the male pin and second electrical conductor means are connected to the female member. The male pin is cylindrical and has a centrally located venting channel which extends throughout its entire length.
