Comparative analysis of broad-scale landscape patterns

Conference · · Bull. Ecol. Soc. Am.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6034101
The effects of ecological processes on observed landscape patterns can be studied by using models which are neutral to the processes of interest. When USGS land use data (LUDA) were compared to data from neutral landscape models, significant differences in the number, size distribution of patches, and the area/perimeter (fractal) indices were found. Results have shown that landscape patterns are dependent on the scales at which they are measured. Therefore, it is critical to identify the appropriate scales and map resolution at which disturbance and landscape processes interact.
