Final report on total cross section measurements. [New Mexico State University]

The total pion cross section measurements were the result of a collaborative effort of scientists from a number of laboratories. Three data runs were made using ..pi../sup +/ and ..pi../sup -/ mesons from the Low-Energy Pion Channel. Statistical accuracies of one percent or more were obtained for most of the elements measured. The targets and energies measured were: /sup 4/He 23 to 90 MeV; /sup 12/C and /sup 13/C 23 to 240 Mev, /sup 6/Li, /sup 9/Be, /sup 10/B, /sup 11/B, 43 to 215 MeV; /sup 16/O, /sup 18/O, /sup 40/Ca, /sup 44/Ca, /sup 48/Ca 43 to 240 MeV; /sup 45/Sc, /sup 51/V 60 to 240 MeV; /sup 27/Al, Cu, Sn, Ho and Pb 60 to 215 MeV.
