Measurement of anti n-p annihilation cross sections near threshold

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:6031204
The anti n-p annihilation cross section was measured between 100-500 MeV/c incident anti n momenta, using the method of time of flight. The antineutrons were obtained through the charge exchange reaction by antiprotons in a scintillator stack. The annihilation events were identified by a vertex detector, and the antineutron flux was determined by a calorimeter. The cross section varies with the momentum p roughly as A + B/p. No evidence for narrow resonance states was found.
