Searches for nonminimal Higgs bosons from a virtual /ital Z/ decaying into a muon pair at the SLAC /ital e//sup +/e/sup /minus// storage ring PEP

Nonminimal neutral Higgs bosons decaying into a muon pair were searched for using the Mark II detector at the SLAC /ital e//sup +/e/sup /minus// collider PEP at /radical//ital s/ =29 GeV. A neutral scalar Higgs boson /ital H//sub /ital s///sup 0/ can be produced accompanied by a pseudoscalar neutral Higgs boson /ital H//sub /ital p///sup 0/ via a virtual /ital Z//sup 0/. If the mass of one of the Higgs bosons is between the muon pair threshold and the kaon pair threshold, it may decay predominantly into a muon pair. We looked for muon pair+jet(s) (/ital e//sup +/e/sup /minus///r arrow//ital H//sub /ital s///sup 0/H/sub p//sup 0//r arrow//mu//sup +//mu//sup /minus//+q/bar q/(/tau//sup +//tau//sup /minus//)) and three-muon-pair (/ital e//sup +/e/sup /minus///r arrow/H/sub s//sup 0/H/sub p//sup 0//r arrow/3(/ital H//sub /ital p///sup 0/)/r arrow/3(/mu//sup +//mu//sup /minus//)) topologies. We found no evidence for these signals above the known background level, and we obtained limits on /Gamma/(/ital Z//sup 0//r arrow/H/sub s//sup 0/H/sub p//sup 0/) as a function of the Higgs-boson masses.
