Electrorheological (ER) fluid is a colloidal dispersion consisting of polarizable particles and an insulating oil. Since Winslow first found the ER effect using suspensions of hydrophilic particles in low viscous oils, this phenomenon has been the subject of intensive theoretical and experimental research because of its wide range of applications.
