Recent developments in high voltage dc transmission

Rapid strides have been made during the past 24 months in high voltage dc power transmission. During this period the New Zealand 500 kV dc line was energized and is now in commercial operation. There have been significant advancements in hvdc technology throughout this period. Many of the recent developments stem, however, in good part from the Pacific Intertie. In fact this comprises the most extensive program on long distance high voltage dc power transmission in course at present.
