Demand-side management programs
- Edison Electric Inst., Washington, DC (US)
The commercial building market's diversity and energy usage makes it both a challenge and an opportunity for the electric utility industry, which is expanding its efforts to shape the demand for electricity. Support of the industry's demand-side management programs by consulting and specifying engineers can mean increased economic competitiveness for the building owner and more efficient use of our nation's energy supplies by building owners and utilities. This paper reports on demand-side management (DSM) which refers to all of the electric utility services that actively seek to influence the way in which customers use electricity. By shaping the demand for electricity, DSM expands the range of choices available to utilities and their customers.
