The nuclear-excitation probabilities connected with the decay of a bound ..mu../sup -/ meson are calculated. Since low-lying nuclear excitations are investigated, it is assumed that the nuclear oscillations are ''adiabatic'' relative to the variation of the electromagnetic excitation applied to the nucleus by the muon. It is shown that the muon decay exites low-lying monopole and magnetic-dipole oscillations. The actual calculations were made for a number of deformed nuclei, and the 0/sup +/ excitations were described by the Davydov-Chaban model. The calculation results have shown that in the considered nuclei the excitation probability normalized to one decay event ranges approximately from 10/sup -3/ to 10/sup -2/. It is noted that an angular correlation exists between the decay-electron emission probability and the direction of the ..gamma.. ray that de-excites the magnetic-dipole nuclear excitation.
