Geobotanical anomalies have been associated with mineralization and hydrocarbon microseepage. As both of these phenomena have been associated with hydrothermal convection systems in the Great Basin it is likely that geobotanical anomalies are present over geothermal areas. This paper presents preliminary results for the on-going Cove Fort-Sulphurdale, Utah, and Dixie Valley, Nevada, studies. Data acquisition for these areas has included (1) vegetal-spectral data, and/or (2) biogeochemical data, and/or (3) soil-geochemical data. The initial results for the Cove Fort-Sulphurdale geothermal area have shown strong statistical correlations between vegetal-spectral and biogeochemical anomalies. For the Dixie Valley geothermal area, although the results reflect early-incomplete data analysis, there appears to be a correlation between vegetal-spectral anomalies and soil-geochemical data.
