Temperature distribution for a steady axisymmetric extrusion, with an application to Ti-6Al-4V. I, II

Journal Article · · J. Therm. Stresses; (United States)

The temperature distribution during a steady axisymmetric extrusion process is calculated for a material with temperature-sensitive properties. Numerical results are obtained for Ti-6Al-4V. In addition, it is shown that two extrusion specimens with different initial temperatures end up in a such a way that the extruded products have almost the same maximum final temperature. This is because more plastic work is required to deform the billet that is initially cooler.
