A retrievable valve apparatus is described for lightening oil being gas lifted through a tubing string. The apparatus includes a valve body having a fishing neck which projects upward within the tubing string and valve means proper carried by the body for selectively communicating the tubing string interior with a pressurized gas supply to inject gas into the oil upward past the fishing neck in response to a predetermined pressure of oil lifted in the tubing string above the apparatus. The valve body is provided with a port to pass the pressurized gas into the body when the body is selectively positioned within the string. (10 claims)
