System and method for controlling fuel supply to an internal combustion engine

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6023820
This patent describes a system for controlling an amount of fuel supplied into an internal combustion engine having means for supplying the amount of fuel into the engine in response to a pulse signal inputted therein. It consists of: (a) a first means for calculating the actual quantity of air sucked into each engine cylinder on the basis of an intake air quantity signal generated by a sensor for detecting and signaling air quantity sucked into engine air intake system and an air dynamic characteristic model representing the dynamic characteristic of the intake air from sensor signal representing quantity of intake air sucked into each cylinder; (b) a second means for calculating currently required amount of fuel for each cylinder based on the quantity of air sucked into each engine cylinder obtained by the first means; (c) a third means for calculating the amount of fuel to be currently supplied to each engine cylinder on the basis of the currently required amount of fuel to be supplied to each engine cylinder calculated by the second means and a fuel dynamic characteristic model representing input and output to each cylinder and signaling fuel.
