Minnesota regulates hazardous wastes

Minnesota has joined several other states with regulations designed to monitor and control hazardous wastes by assigning those who generate wastes the responsibility of its safe transport, storage, processing, and disposal. Industries must submit disclosure forms on all hazardous wastes they generate. This information will give the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) uniform data on which to base a state hazardous waste program. Industries must use permitted facilities for disposal and are expected to reduce the quantity of hazardous wastes generated. The costs of long-term liability will encourage industries to reduce or recycle their wastes. The Environmental Protection Agency will manage the hazardous wastes of states which fail to pass regulations.
