The rapid progress in the development of molten carbonate fuel cells (MCFCs) has highlighted the problem of material compatibility with molten carbonates. Phase stability diagrams were developed for the Cr-Li-K-C-O and Fe-Li-K-C-O systems, and the corrosion of chromium in (Li/sub 0.62/K/sub 0.38)/sub 2/CO/sub 3/ was studied at 650/sup 0/C. This paper presents subsequent results on the corrosion of iron under a deposit of the eutectic composition of (Li/sub 0.62/K/sub 0.38)/sub 2/CO/sub 3/ in simulated fuel cell environments at 650/sup 0/C.
