A state-of-the-art survey of current methodology and practices in deterministic steady-state security assessment and enhancement is given. The need for probabilistic dynamic security assessment is explained. A unified approach to steady-state and dynamic security assessment in terms of steady-state and dynamic security regions is presented. The generalization to probabilistic security assessment is presented. A stochastic optimal control approach to security control is described and a solution algorithm is proposed.
