Feasibility of an impulsively driven gamma-ray laser

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/6010532· OSTI ID:6010532

The feasibility of a gamma-ray laser initiated by the neutron flux from a nuclear explosive and the possibility of a research program that would culminate in the Nevada test of such a device are discussed. It is shown that such a device is plausible within our understanding of Moessbauer technology and the kinetics of superradiant systems. Its scientific application as well as its implications for future weaponry are described.
