Neodymium laser with an adjustable pulse length in single-frequency single-shot emission

A description is given of a phosphate glass neodymium laser in which the pulse length is adjustable smoothly from 16 to 70 nsec at half-height. The Q switching is provided by an electrooptic device, while the lasing spectrum is narrowed to 5 x 10/sup -3/ angstrom by means of the shutter working with positive electrooptic feedback, and the pulse length adjustment is provided via the voltage on the electrooptic shutter.
