This patent describes a retrievable subsurface well conduit interlocking and holding device. This apparatus consists of a number of interactive components. The first component described in the patent is an elongated support means running into a well conduit to a selected depth. The next member of the apparatus which is detailed in the patent consists of an engaging means mounted on the support means, which operates to provide a mechanism to releasably engage the inner wall of the well conduit in order to prevent vertical motion within it. The next modality which successively functions in the operation of the apparatus is discussed in detail and stated to be an operating means having a first and second member which are capable of being connected to an actuating device for the selective engagement and release of the engaging means from the inner wall of the well conduit. Furthermore, a locking means positioned between the first member of the operating means and the support means functions in such a way so as to prevent vertical movement of the operating means when the engaging means engages the inner wall of the well conduit. The locking means is capable of being selectively shifted to a position between the second member of the operating means and the support means. The final component elucidated upon in the patent is a coupling means connecting the first member of the operating means to the locking means for releasing the operating means upon vertical, nonrotating movement of the first member of the operating means.
