Numerical analysis of parameters of self-heating copper vapor lasers

Journal Article · · High Temp. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6007243
A technique is proposed and results are presented for calculating the optimal (from the point of view of obtaining maximum efficiency and average lasing power) parameters of self-heated copper-vapor lasers: the pressure of the buffer gas, radius of the discharge tube, power per unit length, the pulse repetition frquency, and the duration of excitation pulses. The parameters of lasers using Ne and He as buffer gases are compared. It is shown that it is possible to obtain 2.5--3 times higher pulse repetition frequencies in He than in Ne. A comparison of the results of the calculation of the pulse repetition frequency with the experimental results for Ne showed good agreement.
