It was first established by different, independent methods that the ignition and combustion of N/sub 2/H/sub 4//O/sub 2/ mixtures is a branched-chain process. Atomic hydrogen was identified in the flame directly by means of EPR. The hydrogen concentration was two orders of magnitude greater than the equilibrium value for the conditions being considered. An effect of surface memory of a chain reaction carried out previously observed.
