Bilithic unidirectional ring laser
This patent describes a bilithic laser resonator. It comprises a first block; a second block, separated by a gap width of W{sub g} from the first block; at least one of the first and second block being of a material capable of lasing: at least one of the first and second blocks being of a material capable of producing Faraday rotation of an optical beam travelling therein; means for varying the width of W{sub g} of the gap; means for defining, within a region consisting of the first and second blocks and the gap between these two blocks, a resonant unidirectional ring that includes at least four non-coplanar reflection vertices; input means for injecting an input beam of light into the ring to pump laser; and output means for extracting an output laser beam from light in the unidirectional ring.
