A microprocessor-based transient data recording system, developed in the Taipower system, for the investigation of actual load behaviors during system disturbances is described. The system is currently installed (nine sets of such a system at the present time) at the level of primary substations and distribution substations in the Taipower system. Analytical tools to compute the corresponding voltage and current phasors from the instantaneous three-phase voltages and currents measured by the system and to compute the corresponding real and reactive power are presented. A procedure of applying the recording system to develop an accurate load model for the Taipower system is detailed.
