Experience of drizo gas dehydration in EOR gas processing

More and more operators are using enhanced oil recovery (EOR) method to increase oil production and to prolong an aged oil field. One of the more effective methods of EOR technology is the injection of carbon dioxide (CO/sub 2/) into the formation. Carbon dioxide is effective for several reasons, primarily it is miscible with the hydrocarbons in the formation. The miscibility of CO/sub 2/ reduces the viscosity of the resultant CO/sub 2/-oil mixture. With the additional assistance of reservoir pressure maintenance due to the high pressure CO/sub 2/ injection, increased oil recovery becomes possible. Further, the processing of the associated gas of the oil produced from such EOR project is much easier compared to other reservoir pressure maintenance methods, such as nitrogen injection. The produced CO/sub 2/ can be separated, purified if necessary, and recycled for injection. In this paper, the advantages of the DRIZO process and the field experience of the DRIZO dehydration in EOR gas processing are described. The implication and the resultant improvement in the DRIZO process design are discussed. The potential for extending the application of the DRIZO process to other low temperature gas processings, such as expander plant, and the economic benefits are also discussed.
