Application of radiolysis of water vapor by alpha-radiation and fission fragments to hydrogen production

Journal Article · · Sov. Radiochem. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6001533
Results are presented of radiochemical conversion of water and water vapor under the influence of alpha-radiation from curium-244 and plutonium-238 and of fission products of californium-252. Yields of molecular radiolytic products are determined. Hydrogen yield turned out to be equal to 1.05 molecules/100 eV (for water) and 5.8 /plus minus/ 0.3 molecules/100 eV (for water vapor). In the irradiation of water vapor by fission products of californium-252 the hydrogen yield was 8.4 molecules/100 eV.
