Effects of strong metal-support interaction in a system containing palladium metal and praseodymium ion on carbon

Support of palladium on lanthanide oxides increases its activity in methanol synthesis sharply over that of palladium on silica gel. To elucidate the promoter action of Pr ions on supported Pd the authors synthesized (Pd + Pr)/C catalysts by the reaction of organometallic Pr and Pd compounds with the surface of a carbon support. The properties of these catalysts in the hydrogenation of CO and benzene were compared with those of Pd/C.
