This patent describes a subsurface well safety valve for controlling the fluid flow through a well conduit and including a housing having a bore and a valve closure member moving between open and closed positions in the bore. A flow tube is telescopically movable in the housing for controlling the movement of the valve closure member. A mechanism for biasing the flow tube in a direction for allowing the valve closure member to move to the closed position and the improvement in the device for moving the flow tube in a direction for opening the valve closure member is included. A subsurface well safety valve is included for controlling the fluid flow through a well conduit. This valve includes a housing having a bore and a valve closure member moving between open and closed positions in the bore, a flow tube telescopically movable in the housing for controlling the movement of the valve closure member and a device for biasing the flow tube in a direction for allowing the valve closure member to move to the closed position. The improvement in the method for moving the flow tube in a direction for opening the valve closure member is also included.
