Title: Fabrication and properties of high J /SUB c/ lead-alloy Josephson junctions

Journal Article · · IEEE Trans. Electron Devices; (United States)

High-current critical/density lead-alloy tunnel junctions were fabricated with junction areas of less than 1 ..mu..m/sup 2/. The relationship of junction quality, minimum resetting current I /SUB m/ , and energy-gap reduction to current critical/density J /SUP c/ are investigated experimentally. The J /SUP c/ dependence of I /SUP m/ is calculated taking into account the experimentally obtained quasi-particle current. The energy-gap reduction in high- J /SUP c/ junctions is explained by calculating the nonequilibrium quasi-particle distribution in the junction area. These calculated results are compared with the experimental data.
