In this program two ion accelerators are used to simultaneously focus a beam of helium ions and a second ion beam on targets of selected reactor structural alloys. The resulting microstructural changes are being studied by systematic variations in damage rate, irradiation temperature, fluence and appM helium/dpa ratio and will be compared and correlated with results from companion fission reactor and high energy neutron irradiation studies conducted elsewhere in the DOE program.
