Semiconductor-laser-pumped, mode-locked, and frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser

We report the demonstration of a 250-MHz mode-locked, intracavityfrequency-doubled, diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser. The laser produces 520-psec pulsesat an average power of 76 mW and a wavelength of 532 nm. The laser has anelectrical-to-optical efficiency of 1.43% and was operated both cw and modelocked. Mode locking increased the average output power by 60% and eliminatednoise due to modal competition.
