The on-line monitoring of a power plant (or any process plant) consists of three primary functions: data acquisition, data analysis, and data presentation. Data acquisition is the process by which the basic set of physical data from plant components is obtained. In the data analysis, or logic, phase a specific data analysis computer code determines the meaning of the acquired physical data. The results of this logical analysis may either be presented to a plant operator who will then have to activate the controls systems accordingly or they can be used to automatically activate the same control systems. This work relates to second of the above three functions by presenting advanced methods for generating reliable data analysis computer codes.
