The West Casa Blanca field in situ combustion project was initiated in Feb. 1967, with air injection into the Cole reservoir. The field, which is located near Freer, Tex., contained 16 pumping oil wells with an average production of 62 bopd prior to ignition. Primary recovery from the 1030 ft reservoir had been 1.1 million bbl of oil, or 28% of the original oil in place. By the end of May 1967, production had increased to 160 bopd with air injection fo 1500 Mcfd. A burn front was formed as evidence by the appearance of carbon dioxide gases in the producing wells. Production continued to increase with the drilling of an offset well to the air injector and peaked at 346 bopd during Dec. 1967. In Oct. 1969, the project was expanded with the addition of a second air compressor and air injection well. December 1971, production averaged 151 bopd. There have been 371,000 bbl of oil produced since project start-up and 4500 MMcf of air has been injected into the reservoir. The burned volume is calculated to be approx. 400 acre-feet of the reservoir.
