Stability of tokamaks with elongated cross section

Fixed boundary n=1 magnetohydrodynamic instabilities are studied computationally as a function of diamagnetism (..beta../sub p/) and current profile in elongated toroidal equilibria (12) or a diamagnetic plasma (..beta../sub p/>1) with only a mildly elongated cross section (b/a<2).
