Quantum yields for photoreduction of Eu(III) and photooxidation of Eu(II) in alcohol

Photochemical methods of metal separation of the elements europium, ytterbium, and samarium have been considered. Europium has been separated from lanthanide mixtures in ethanol and isopropanol following photoreduction, but no measurements of the quantum yield were made. This paper reports the first experimental determination of the quantum yield for photoreduction and the quantum yield for photooxidation for europium in alcohols. 7 refs., 1 fig., 1 tab.
