Goldstone bosons and their superpartners in supersymmetric theories
We consider the class of supersymmetric theories in which a continuous global-symmetry group G is broken at a scale M and supersymmetry is broken at a scale ..lambda..<..0) chiral multiplets if the matrix elements f/sub ..cap alpha..//sub ..beta..//sub ..gamma../V/sup dagger/G/sub ..gamma../V are zero, where G/sub ..cap alpha../ are the generators of G, f/sub ..cap alpha..//sub ..beta..//sub ..gamma../ are the structure constants, and V stands for the vacuum expectation values of the scalar fields. A method is developed for finding which scalars are the Goldstone bosons and which are massless in the ..lambda -->..0 limit but acquire a mass for ..lambda..not =0. The method is used to calculate the masses of the fermion and scalar partners of the Goldstone bosons, extending the work of Tamvakis and Wyler, and ours, from the case in which G = U(1) to an arbitrary group. For example, the masses of the fermion partners are at most of order ..lambda../sup 2//M if supersymmetry is broken spontaneously, but radiative corrections may give a contribution of order ..lambda.. if supersymmetry is broken softly, but explicitly. Several related issues are considered.
