Title: Shape and normal modes of the quadrupole vibrations of rotating nuclei in a macroscopic approach (ellipsoids)

The possible ellipsoidal equilibrium configurations and normal modes of quadrupole vibrations of rotating nuclei are analyzed thoroughly in the model of a Fermi-liquid drop. The momentum distribution of the nucleons is taken into account. Giant backbending and shape isomers are predicted. The normal-mode spectrum is much richer than in the ordinary liquid-drop model, and it includes branches of a giant quadrupole resonance split by rotation. The conditions for stability of the Fermi-liquid drop differ from those in ordinary hydrodynamics.
