Time-dependent Hartree-Fock calculations of fusion cross sections for /sup 16/O + /sup 40/Ca and /sup 28/Si + /sup 28/Si

Time-dependent Hartree-Fock calculations are carried out for the systems /sup 16/O + /sup 40/Ca and /sup 28/Si + /sup 28/Si. Cross sections for the formation of /sup 56/Ni are qualitatively similar in both cases, although there exist significant quantitative differences which reflect the importance of the entrance channel. Both systems exhibit an angular momentum window for fusion. The results of the calculations are compared with currently available experimental data.
