System of abnormality detection for oxygen concentration sensor

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5977140
A system is described for abnormality detection in an air/fuel ratio control apparatus of an internal engine comprising: an oxygen concentration sensor including two pairs of electrodes disposed in mutual opposition, each pair sandwiching an oxygen ion-conductive solid electrolytic member: gas diffusion control means for providing an exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine to the vicinity of one electrode of each of the two pairs of electrodes; control means for applying a pump voltage; means for deriving an air/fuel ratio compensation value, in accordance with the oxygen concentration sensing value, for controlling an air/fuel ratio of a mixture supplied to the internal combustion engine such as to maintain the air/fuel ratio at a target air/fuel ratio; drive means for driving an air/fuel ratio control means of the internal combustion engine in accordance with the corrected air/fuel control value which is obtained by applying compensation to an air/fuel ratio control value in accordance with the air/fuel ratio compensation value; and means for detecting an abnormality of an electrical connection system of the second pair of electrodes based upon the pump current and upon the air/fuel ratio compensation value.
