Acidic properties of type ZSM-5 and ZSM-11 zeolites

The acidity spectra of type ZSM-5 and ZSM-11 pentasils were studied by temperature-programmed ammonia desorption over a wide range of heating rates. The two zeolite types have the same spectrum. At all heating rates there are two thermal desorption maxima. The parameters of the respective peaks are close together for the two samples. Heats of adsorption calculated from the TDP spectra are 156 and 70 kJ/mole. Deviations from linearity in Amenomiya-Cvetanovic coordinates when the heating rate is raised above 15 K/min are attributed to diffusional complications.
