The authors have studied the phase diagram of the cross section Bi/sub 2/WO/sub 6/-Bi/sub 2/MoO/sub 6/ of the ternary system Bi/sub 2/O/sub 3/-MoO/sub 3/-WO/sub 3/, which has wide regions of solid solutions with various structures: polar orthorhombic, stable at low temperatures over the whole range of compositions (the ..gamma.. phase); monoclinic with symmetry C2/m (phase M in solid solutions based on high-temperature modification of Bi/sub 2/WO/sub 6/); monoclinic with symmetry P2/sub 1//c (phase ..gamma..' in solid solutions based on high-temperature phase of Bi/sub 2/MoO/sub 6/). The phase transitions ..gamma.. equivalent to M and ..gamma.. equivalent to ..gamma..' are reversible, but the latter is very slow in pure bismuth molybdate. Both these transitions can be regarded as phase transitions of a special type - reconstructive pyroelectric transitions. Solid solutions with orthorhombic structure have high anionic conductivity characteristic of superionic conductors.
