The Il'ich Ahdanov combine examined the quality of coke arriving at the blast furnace by constructing a coke testing station in the 2300 cubic metric blast furnace stockhouse. The combine tested coke from several suppliers for the following properties: moisture content, granulometric composition, strength, chemical activity, electrical resistivity, thermal stability, density, and aerodynamic resistance. It was found that systematic monitoring of coke makes it possible to observe actual changes in these properties and to make smelting in the blast furnace a more stable and efficient operation.
