The Willows-Beehive Bend gas field is one of the largest California gas fields producing from strata of Cretaceous age. It is located centrally in the Sacramento Valley, 70 miles N. of Sacramento. As of Dec. 31, 1964, the field reserves were 109,895,480 Mcf of gas. A maximum of 8,560 productive acres was defined by the completion of 95 producers. Regionally the Willows-Beehive Bend anticline is near the center of the present-day Sacramento Valley syncline. All commercially productive wells are on the E., or upthrown side, of a major NW.- trending fault which bisects the anticline. The SE.- plunging anticline contains many small gas pools which collectively constitute a major gas field. Lenticularity of sandstone and minor faults control the gas entrapment. The Kione Formation contains fairly continuous sandstone bodies, and its gas reserves are in faulted structural traps.
