Dissolution and reaction studies of CsZr/sub 2/(PO/sub 4/)/sub 3/ and Zr phosphates in aqueous media

Cs dissolution kinetics for CsZr/sub 2/(PO/sub 4/)/sub 3/ in a variety of aqueous media at 70/sup 0/C approximately obeyed a first-order law. However in 0.1 M NaHCO/sub 3/, a t/sup 1/2/ law was appropriate. The Cs extraction was a minimum under neutral conditions. In the pH range of 1 to 4, the Cs extraction varied approximately as (H/sup +/)/sup 0/ /sup 3/ and was a stronger function of pH in alkaline media. The survival of ..cap alpha..-Zr phosphate gel in water at 300/sup 0/C was essentially confirmed. ZrP/sub 2/O/sub 7/ reacted sluggishly with water at 200 to 300/sup 0/C to produce an apparently fully protonated analogue of NaZr/sub 2/(PO/sub 4/)/sub 3/.
