Coincidence reactions and the three-body structure of /sup 6/Li

Conference · · AIP Conf. Proc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5958775
This paper concerns two of the three virtual disintegration amplitudes of /sup 6/Li that are possible below the /sup 3/He--/sup 3/H threshold: /sup 6/Li..--> cap alpha..+d and /sup 6/Li..-->..p+(n..cap alpha..). These amplitudes embody the three-body nature of /sup 6/Li at low-excitation energies and thereby serve as a testing ground for three-body models of /sup 6/Li. The current status of a three-body approach to the dynamics of these amplitudes is given. Emphasis is placed on the physics underlying the three-body approach and the results obtained. The theoretical predictions for the /sup 6/Li..--> cap alpha..+d and /sup 6/Li..-->..p+(n..cap alpha..) momentum distributions are compared to new data from the kinematically optimized coincidence reaction /sup 6/Li(e,e'd) /sup 4/He and existing data from /sup 6/Li(p,2p)n..cap alpha.., respectively.
