This paper discusses the results of simulating three potential protection problems associated with the interconnection of small, dispersed storage and generation (DSG) devices to the electric distribution system. These simulations were performed in an effort to assess the adequacy of the electric utility industry's present protection practices and hardware for distribution systems with DSG. A digital computer program was used to perform the transient simulations. In this analysis, only rotating-type dispersed generators were simulated. Three sizes of induction and synchronous generators were considered: 100, 1000 and 2000 kW. A hypothetical 12.47 kV feeder was chosen for the circuit.
