Deep Anadarko development hinges on gas pricing

Journal Article · · World Oil; (United States)
OSTI ID:5958158
Federal control of interstate gas prices at artificially low levels, high drilling and completion costs, and a gas surplus in intrastate markets have slowed deep development in western Oklahoma's Anadarko basin, claims The GHK Co. and Gasanadarko, Ltd. According to the Potential Gas Agency, 88 trillion CF of natural gas await discovery at depths below 15,000 ft. Deep-well drilling risks stemming from tremendous pressures and temperatures, however, translate into a cost of $3.2 million per well - 12 times the cost of a shallow well. The Natural Gas Policy Act's November 1978 deregulation of deep-well gas prices should spur activity in the nation's deep basins.
