Make butadiene from butene/butane feed

The main characteristics of the Nippon Zeon (NZ) process are the use of n-butene/butane (BBRR) as feed and the use of offgas as reaction diluent. After recovering butadiene and isobutene from the C/sub 4/ fraction of a naphtha cracker, the remainder contains n-butene and butane as the main components. The offgas results from the recovery of crude butadiene from the reactor effluent. The use of the BBRR and offgas in our process is based on our preference to use the feed and diluent of lowest cost. Suitable catalysts were developed by our laboratory followed by evaluation and process optimization in a small scale pilot plant. From continuous operation of the pilot plant for about two months, the superiority of the process was confirmed.
